Prof. Akhtar Kalam

Biography: Professor Akhtar Kalam has been at Victoria University (VU) since 1985. He is a former Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Health, Engineering and Science and Head of Engineering of the College of Engineering and Science.Currently, he is the Head of External Engagement. He is also the current Chair of the Academic Board in the Engineering Institute of Technology, Perth, Australia, and the Editor in Chief of Australian Journal of Electrical & Electronics Engineering. Further, he has a Distinguished Professorship position at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia, three Indian and five Malaysian universities. He has also been appointed as the Editor in Chief of the Australian Journal of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Professor Kalam has wide experience in educational institutions and industry across four continents. He received his B.Sc. and B.Sc. Engineering from Calcutta University and Aligarh Muslim University, India. He completed his MS and PhD at the University of Oklahoma, USA and the University of Bath, UK. He has worked with Ingersoll Rand and other electrical manufacturers. Other teaching appointments include the University of Technology, Baghdad, Iraq and Capricornia Institute of Advanced Education, Rockhampton, Queensland.


Professor Kalam is regularly invited to deliver lectures, work on industrial projects and examine external thesis overseas. His major areas of interests are power system analysis, communication, control, protection, renewable energy, smart grid, IEC61850 implementation and cogeneration systems. He has been actively engaged in the teaching of Energy Systems to undergraduates and postgraduates, and has provided professional courses to the industry both in Australia and overseas.He regularly offers Continuing Professional Development and Masterclasses on Power System Protection, Renewable Energy, IEC61850, Cogeneration & Gas Turbine Operation and PBL in engineering education to practising engineers, the Energy Supply Association of Australia (ESAA) and Australian Power Institute (API). He also runs a postgraduate distance education program on Power System Protection for the ESAA. Professor Kalam has conducted research, provided industrial consultancy and published more than 542 publications on his area of expertise. He has written 26-plus books in the area. More than 35 PhD students have graduated under his supervision and he is an external examiner of many external doctoral students in Australia and overseas. Professor Kalam provides consultancy for major electrical utilities, manufacturers and other industry bodies in his field of expertise. He is a Fellow of EA, IET, AIE, a life member of IEEE and a member CIGRE AP B5 Study Committee.

Prof. Jingfeng Mao

Biography: Professor Dr. Ismail Musirin has got 22 years of research experience in the field of Power System Engineering. He has received numerous research grants from the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia (MOHE) and Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Malaysia (MOSTI). Most of his researches dealt with the algorithms and techniques development in solving problems in Power System involving voltage stability, economic power dispatch, transient stability, distributed generation, renewable energy optimization, power system optimization and application of artificial intelligence in power system. With his vast experience in electrical engineering and artificial intelligence, he has been appointed as one of the research grant evaluators since seven years ago by the Minister of Higher Education Malaysia (MOHE). He has also been opportunity to evaluate research grant at the international level. One of the most important recognition received b him is the opportunity given by the Ministry of Security, Kazaksthan to review a research proposal from the country. Besides, he has delivered speeches on research proposals at several universities in Malaysia.

Prof. Dr. Omid Mahian

Biography: Omid Mahian is working as a Professor at Ningbo University, China. He is also a visiting professor of Department of Chemical Engineering, Imperial College London. Currently, he is a member of the Editorial Board of Energy (Elsevier) and Renewable Energy (Elsevier) journals, a senior associate editor of Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry (Springer) and an associate editor in Alexandria Engineering Journal (Elsevier) & J. Thermal Science (Springer). He has been a reviewer for more than and 100 international journals. His research direction mainly includes the application of nanotechnology in renewable energy (such as nanofluids application in solar collector and solar desalination) and entropy generation and exergy analysis in energy systems. So far, he has published more than 200 SCI papers. He has papers in top journals including Progress in Energy and Combustion Science, Physics Reports and Nano Energy. He has been selected as a highly cited researcher for three consecutive years (2018, 2019 and 2020) by Web of Science. He has received several international awards from conferences and innovation exhibitions for his contribution in the field of heat transfer and renewable energy.

Prof. Jinghong Zhou

Biography: Prof. Zhou, Ph.D., postdoctoral fellow, Professor of Changchun Institute of Technology, the seventh batch of experts with outstanding contributions in Changchun City, review expert of National key R & D plan "Smart Grid Technology and Equipment" key special evaluation, member of China Electrical Engineering Society Kinetic Energy Special Committee, Northeast Electric Power University part-time master tutor in electrical engineering, the review experts of State Grid Corporation science and technology project. He mainly engaged in production and scientific research in the field of power system planning and power economic analysis.

Assoc. Prof. Sohrab Mirsaeidi

Biography: Sohrab Mirsaeidi received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Malaysia in 2016. Subsequently, he furthered his studies as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Tsinghua University, China from 2016 to 2019. Currently, he is an Associate Professor at the School of Electrical Engineering, Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU), China. Sohrab Mirsaeidi has published 90+ papers and 2 books in the field of Microgrids and Large-Scale Power Systems. He is a Member of the National Technical Committee of Measuring Relays and Protection Equipment Standardization of China, and has presided over and participated in several national research projects in China. He is an Editorial Board Member for several international journals and a Regular Reviewer for IEEE Transactions journals. He has also served as Chair, Keynote/Invited Speaker, and Committee Member in 100+ international conferences. His main research interests include Control and Protection of Large-Scale Hybrid AC/DC Grids and Microgrids, Application of Power Electronics in Power Systems, and Deployment of Artificial Intelligence in Power System Analysis. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering (CSEE), and a Member of IET and CIGRE.
